Denmark:Consolidation in the telecoms business forecast
Article Abstract:
Telecoms analysts anticipate consolidation in the Danish telecoms business following the UMTS auction as there is not room for four mobile telephony companies in the country. They say that Sonofon and TDC due to their size are the only operators that could turn the UMTS auction into a profit as each company is required to have at least 1.5 million clients to make it profitable. TDC has the required client base, whereas Orange has a client base of 552,000 and Telia 295,000 and Hi3G has no clients. John Strand of Strand Consult anticipates fundamental changes in the Danish telecoms business before the year is out.

Denmark: UMTS winners on the lookout for partners
Article Abstract:
The winners of the UMTS licenses in Denmark are on the lookout for partners in order to be able to fulfil the requirements of the UMTS deal. Sonofon, that was not awarded a license, is one of the players in the Danish market that is now expected to obtain invitations from the UMTS winners. Telecoms analyst John Strand of Strand Consult mentions Debitel, which is the biggest of the existing virtual operators in Denmark, as a suitable partner for the UMTS companies. Debitel's client base at the end of the first half of 2001 was 253,000 which entails 5% of all Danish mobile calls.
