DENMARK: FDB ANTICIPATES MEAGRE GROWTH

FDB, the Danish co-operative retail and wholesale company, expects to boost its profit by a mere DKr300mn to DKr108mn, according to the annual budget presented at the FDB congress held over the weekend. The average growth in the grocery retail market is only one per cent. Kvickly aims at a 5% growth whereas SuperBrugsen, Irma and DagliBrugsen target a 3% growth, LokalBrugsen is expected to report a 2% drop, Merlin is set to grow 17% and Fakta 7%.

DENMARK: NEW COOPERATIVE GROCERY CHAIN

Danish SuperBest plans to start a new cooperative grocery chain with the name Brugsen or De Frie Brugsen. The thought is to attract 130 independent consumer organisations in connection with the merger of FDB into Coop Norden. FDB's PR manager Jens Juul Nielsen says that he isn't especially concerned over SuperBest's plans and that only two consumer organisations have recently gone over to them.

DENMARK: GROCERY DISCOUNT CHAIN PLANS EXPANSION ABROAD

Netto, the discount grocery chain of Dansk Supermarked is planning expansion abroad, but MD Mads Krage declines to say exactly where this expansion will take place. He has earlier mentioned that the chain has carried out market surveys in Sweden and Norway. Netto also aims to speed up the development in existing markets setting a new growth target of 25 new stores and possible acquisitions.
