Article Abstract:
IKEA Rail AB plans to use the Danish railways for its future freight transport in Europe and has therefore entered an agreement with Danish Rail Authorities for several goods transports. IKEA Rail AB, which is a subsidiary of furniture company IKEA, has entered a similar agreement with DB Netz AG in Germany and with Banverket in Sweden. The connection that Ikea Rail AB is to start will stretch from Almhult in Sweden to Duisberg in Germany. According to MD, Christer Beijbom The goods transports will form a backbone for IKEA's logistics system in Europe. The transports will engage 650 trains per year and will turnover SEK500mn (US$45mn) in the opening phase. Within five years, according to Beijbom turnover will climb to SEK1.5bn. IKEA Rail AB will be able to manage the traffic with its own trains. The investment in trains will mean that a large part of IKEA's overland transports will disappear. IKEA Rail AB is to utilise the schedule developed by the Rail authority and its European equivalents under the name European Freight Freeways.

DENMARK: SOUND BRIDGE PROBLEMS AFFECT REVENUES
Article Abstract:
Both Banestyrelsen, the Danish Rail Administration, and DSB Gods, the cargo division of the Danish rail operator, are loosing revenues owing to problems with the new Sound Bridge. The chaotic situation has made SJ, the Swedish railways, move two cargo trains of the major client AssiDoman, the Swedish forest company, from transports via the bridge to the ferries between Trelleborg, Sweden, and Sassnitz, Germany, until 26 August. The paper estimates that DSB Gods has lost revenues totaling up to DKr 10mn (USDS 1mn) owing to this.
