DENMARK: MUNICIPALITIES USE E-COMMERCE SERVICES
Article Abstract:
Municipalities in the Copenhagen region are to start using e-commerce services when making purchases of every-day commodities for senior citizens. So far, the municipality of Ballerup has signed a contract with the supermarket chain ISO, and several other municipalities are negotiating with ISO. The municipality of Ballerup doesn't only reduce costs by being able to reduce the number of employees in the home-help service, but also solves anticipated future problems to find staff at the same time as the number of senior citizens increase.

Home shopping in the Netherlands
Article Abstract:
Mail order sales in the Netherlands grew to Fl 2.2 billion in 1996, accounting for under 2% of the total retail market. More than 30% of mail order sales were accounted for by clothing and textiles, with Dutch households spending an average of Fl 340 per year to purchase via mail order. Mail is used by just 20% of customers, with telephone ordering the most common method. Electronic home shopping is likely to grow quickly from a small base in 1996, with international purchases potentially threatening the domestic business.
