DENMARK: NO CLOSURE FOR POWER STATIONS
Article Abstract:
Energi E2, the Danish power company, has given in to Copenhagen municipal authorities' demands not to scrap the Amager 1 and Amager 2 power stations in Copenhagen. This is hoped to solve the energy supply problem in the capital. The Amager power stations can't use coal for environmental reasons which is why straw pellets will be used. Energi E2 will also set up a plant for the production of wood pellets in Koge near Copenhagen that can also be made to produce straw pellets. The Amager power stations were supposed to be closed to secure the future of Avedore 2 power station that is being built in Avedore near Hvidovre. Avedore 2 is 60% owned by Energi E2 and 40% owned by Vattenfall of Sweden. The re-opening of Amager power stations is not an optimal solution for Avedore 2, according to Energi E2's managing director Torkil Bentzen.

Denmark: Electricity prices not expected to drop
Article Abstract:
A survey conducted by Deloitte & Touche's VidenCenter Energi regarding consumers' expectations for 1 January 2003 when the electricity reform will take effect and consumers are freely allowed to choose their electricity supplier. According to the survey, the reform is not going to result in considerably lower rates for consumers. Besides, only a fourth of consumers know about the reform and a third of them expect rates to drop. Deloitte & Touche does not expect electricity companies to compete through low electricity rates but by supplying energy-saving white goods and cable-tv and Internet subscriptions. Consumers, however, are not interested in such offers and 58% say they are only interested in getting cheaper electricity from energy companies
