DENMARK:SURVEY INDICATES GROWTH IN PRIVATE CONSUMPTION
Article Abstract:
There is growing optimism among Danish consumers, according to a survey conducted by Greens Analyseinstitut. 1,223 Danes were involved in the survey where they were interviewed about their consumption at the beginning of May 2001. The survey found that over 30% of Danes say they consumed more at the beginning of May 2001 than in the corresponding period last year whereas 10% say they have reduced their consumption and 60% say that their consumption remained unchanged. These figures indicate weak signs of a turnaround in private consumption in Denmark. The interviewees were also asked whether they were planning to boost their consumption in the next three months but only 14% said they were planning to do so whereas 81.6% said their consumption would remain unchanged.

DENMARK: PRIVATE CONSUMPTION DOWN
Article Abstract:
Private consumption in Denmark has dropped in the past three months, according to a Greens Analyseinstitut survey involving 1,007 persons. Lise Nielsen, economist at Arbejderbevaegelsens Erhvervsrad (The Economic Council of the Labour Movement), says it is normal that private consumption in Denmark is smaller in the third quarter of the year compared with the second quarter. The survey also indicates that consumers are planning to save more than earlier. According to Lise Nielsen, the drop in consumption is ascribed to the past year's massive oil price hikes and this year's turbulence in the stock market. She adds, however, that there are signs indicating that private consumption is on the rise again.

Denmark: Growth rate in advertising decreasing
Article Abstract:
As a result of the weakening trend in the economy many companies are expecting a decrease in the growth rate of commercial advertising. In the trade organisation for the commercial advertising agency's annual study of the market 29% expected to increase advertising compared to 52% in the year 2000. This is the first time in five years that fewer companies than the year before expect to spend more money on advertising. 55% expect to maintain the same budget in the coming year as the present compared to 37% for the year before.
