At China's crossroads: neglected Wuhan city enters the spotlight
Article Abstract:
Government officials are planning to revive the commercial status of Wuhan by developing the city into a major port and transport center of China. Wuhan's plus points are the availability of rail, road and river transport along with its position as China's third important educational center. Large foreign companies including Philips of Netherlands and Peugeot of France have started joint-projects in Wuhan due to cheap labor and production costs, but most big companies are hesitant to invest here because of bureaucratic red tape as well as lack of rail, shipping and air facilities.
