Dangerous deriving?

It is unlikely that a systemic bank crisis will result from banks trading derivatives. Banks do not risk as much in derivatives as many have charged, and derivatives often help a bank hedge against risk. Improved disclosure and accounting policies also reduce the possibility of such as disaster.

Banks are having trouble collecting from companies who suffered losses from derivatives contracts with the banks. Some companies are defaulting on the contracts. Another problem is lack of communication between the banks and companies on the riskiness of the contracts.
