Federal-Mogul stock suffers as company mulls higher bid
Article Abstract:
Federal-Mogul Corp.'s shares are being hit hard as it studies the possibility of increasing its offer to acquire LucasVarity PLC of Great Britain. Any acquisition offer will be made more problematic as a result of Federal-Mogul's stock situation. LucasVanity has already accepted TRW Inc.'s all-cash bid of $6.6 billion. Such a move would be the largest merger in history of two auto-parts companies. On February 4, 1999, the company's shares dropped 6.3%.
