De Klerk across the Rubicon
Article Abstract:
In the recent referendum election, White voters approved of de Klerk's plan to end apartheid in South Africa by an astonishing majority. The 68% voted yes for many reasons, which included genuine belief in the rights of Blacks, fear of sports teams being banned and fear of increased economic sanctions.

The nailing of F.W. de Klerk
Article Abstract:
South African Pres F.W. de Klerk is under siege from his own National Party for his negotiations with the African National Congress (ANC) to end apartheid. Many think he went too far when he freed violent criminals, designated as political prisoners, to get the ANC to resume talks.

South African Pres Frederick de Klerk wants to speed up uniting the 'homelands' black citizens were restricted to during apartheid with the rest of the nation. This would allow homeland residents to participate in the transitional government and planning of elections.
