Deep and long
Article Abstract:
The economic slump in Thailand is proving deeper and lasting longer than had been expected. This could be because the Thai government has not implemented many of the promised economic reforms or because policies dictated by the International Monetary Fund have proved inappropriate. The country's banking system remains insolvent, with more than a third of all loans probably non-performing. It is estimated that it will cost more than $20 billion to recapitalize the banking system. This is more than the entire current capitalization of the stock market.
