Democracy on the cheap: campaign finance
Article Abstract:
Campaign spending in Britain is much lower than in the US or continental Europe. MP candidates' finances are limited by law, and national parties are constrained television ads being limited to equal-time unpaid spots. Growth in British campaign finance is examined.

Article Abstract:
The alternative vote (AV) is a better alternative to Westminister-style electoral system than proportional representation (PR). AV eliminates the worst of the 'first-past-the-post' system, but does not lead to a proliferation of parties, as PR has in New Zealand.
