DENMARK: MOBILE OPERATORS RELUCTANT TO ADD VALUE

A reason behind the relatively low growth rate on the Danish mobile phone market is that the operators are reluctant to add value by introducing new services, according to Steen Boas Andersen at Nokia Denmark. So far, the operators have concentrated on offering conventional call services. Steen Boas Andersen says value-adding services may include entertainment services to households and faster access and facilitating services to businesses.

Telestyrelsen, the Danish telecom authority, states that three licenses should be awarded for the emergency radio network TETRA in Denmark. Both Tele Danmark and Sonofon are interested in operating the network, but Tele Danmark wishes to be the sole operator, whereas Sonofon prefers that there are two operators of the network.
