Denmark: Nesa to test broadband links on electric lines
Article Abstract:
NESA, the electricity company, has been testing high-speed data communication transmitted along traditional electric lines to telephone cables. The speed will be the same as for ADSL links. NESA sales and marketing manager Thomas Boe Bramsen says technically it works perfectly. The new technology used by NESA could pose a challenge to established telecoms companies. NESA's electric mains covers some 432,000 households and companies and 300,000 of them could be able to make use of this technology. NESA has not yet decided whether to make it commercially available but is in the process of evaluating it. Telecoms consultant Torben Rune of Netplan says telecoms companies have an advantage compared with power companies due to the structure of the power mains as a telephone exchange can serve more clients than a transformer station.

DENMARK:SBC DOES NOT INTEND TO SPLIT TELEDANMARK
Article Abstract:
The sales of shares to Sweden should not be seen as if SBC Communications, the main shareholder in TeleDanmark, is trying to split TeleDanmark. SBC, the biggest non-European telecom company in Europe, owns about 41.6% in TeleDenmark and about 25% in the Belgic telecom company Belgacom. Europe will continue to be a very important market for SBC in the future, according to Selim Bingo, spokesman from SBC.
