Denmark: Poor growth prospects for Danish newspapers
Article Abstract:
PricewaterhouseCoopers' annual "Global Entertainment and Media Outlook 2001-2005" predicts zero growth for Danish dailies. The only growth anticipated will be in advertising revenue, which will mainly fall on free newspapers. On the global arena, the survey forecasts a 5% growth. According to John G. Sorensen, partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers and head of the Danish unit of Entertainment & Media, newspaper offices will have to redefine themselves to media companies as their core operation is to produce news and not only on paper. This will pave way for new income sources. "The future for newspapers' earnings is not increased volumes but more specialised newspapers at higher prices. The winners will be the most specialised high-price products", adds John G. Sorensen.

DENMARK: PRINTING HOUSE TO TRIM DOWN PROFIT FORECAST
Article Abstract:
Norhaven, the Viborg-based printing house, is to trim down its full-year profit forecast from DKr24mn (US$2.7mn) to DKr15-18mn due to a fall in first-half profit. This is ascribed to the establishment of a digital printing house, Bookpartner, as well as tightening competition from Norhaven Book A/S. Norhaven will make a DKr20mn investment in new printing equipment in order to consolidate its position in the market.
