Denmark: Retailers benefit from slaughter-house merger
Article Abstract:
Up to one third of the synergies that will be reached through the merger between the major Danish slaughter-houses Danish Crown and Steff-Houlberg, totaling DKr 250mn (USD 30mn) a year, will go to the retail sector, according to Kjeld Johannesen, CEO of Danish Crown. He says retailers will gain DKr 80mn through reduced prices and improved logistics. Kjeld Johannesen says the total activities of Danish Crown and Steff-Houlberg will not be reduced, but synergies reached through merging product development and avoiding overlap between the two companies' operations.

Denmark: Uncertainty about Danish Crown's investment
Article Abstract:
Danish Crown, the Danish meat producer, is to reconsider its plans for setting up an abattoir for DKr2bn (US$240mn) in Horsens following signals from politicians that pork production in Denmark is to be reduced from its present annual level of a little more than DKr23mn pigs. According to Danish Crown, the final decision regarding the investment will also take into account "the political conditions for pork production in Denmark".
