Denmark:TDC view a merger with Telia as the best option
Article Abstract:
Telia ceo Marianne Nivert and TDC ceo Henning Dyremose take a positive stance towards a Nordic merger in the telecoms business even though they both reject that there are concrete plans for a merger between the two companies. Dyremose says the best option for TDC would be to merge with Telia as the synergy effects of a merger would be bigger than the disadvantages. Nivert says a merger is not the only alternative, and other forms of co-operation can be considered. One thing is certain though - neither of the companies can afford to take over the other one. According to Dyremose, Telenor will not be included in a Nordic merger as Telia in that case would have to give up its investment in the Norwegian mobile telephony company Netcom and Telenor would have to do the same with its stake in Sonofon.

Denmark: Telecoms reform deludes foreign operators
Article Abstract:
As from April next year, Denmark will be the first country to make it possible for consumers to move their phone numbers from mobile phones to fixed network phones and the other way around. This would make it possible for consumers to use their mobile phone number on their regular phone at home or their regular phone number on their mobile phone. Telekommunikationsindustrien, the trade organisation for the Danish telecoms companies, has now approached the Research Minister to ask for help to solve the problems it anticipates in the wake of the telecoms reform. The organisation fears that it will be difficult for foreign telecoms companies to charge correct rates for calls to Denmark as they will not be able to see the difference between Danish fixed network and mobile network customers.
