Vietnam is virgin land for fast-food chain AFC

America's Favorite Chicken Company Pres. William Van Epps discussed some of the reasons on the company's success in the Southeast Asian fast-food market. Van Epps credited much of the company's success to its joint venture agreement with P.T. Cipta Selera Murni, which has had a vast experience in the food service industry. He also discussed AFC's new outlets in Vietnam which he hopes to be as successful as its other endeavors in the region.

U.N. report paints a mixed picture of women's advances over 20 years
Article Abstract:
The UN's report 'The World's Women 1995' concluded that declining birth rates, increased literacy and labor-force participation are prime indicators that women's social status is improving. However, regional disparities in the Asian region exist, with South Asia have the highest female illiteracy rates and lower life expectancies. Southeast and East Asia registered the highest literacy rates and lowest infant mortality rates in the region.
