In Taipei, sex-trade rebound is uncertain
Article Abstract:
The once-thriving sex industry of Taipei, Taiwan, might not resume despite the defeat of former Mayor Chen Shui-bian, the man responsible for closing over 400 brothels and other establishments used for the illicit trade. Shui-bian's defeat at the hands of Nationalist Party candidate Ma Ying-jeou in the Dec 1998 mayoralty elections was expected to bring back prostitution to the city. A society that is more open about sexual issues is seen as the reason behind the decline in Taiwan's flesh trade.
