Relations between blacks and Jews in Brooklyn, NY, have become very tense because of the trial of two blacks accused of murdering a Jewish man. Accused murderers Lemrick Nelson and Charles Price were acquitted but are being retried on charges of violating the civil rights of Yankel Rosenbaum.

A battle is raging between differing Eastern Orthodox Catholic churches for the souls of Ukrainians. The Greek Catholic Church has regained power with Ukrainian independence. Kiev and the Ukraine are very important to Eastern Orthodoxy, which see it as the birthplace of the Slavic church.
