Dixons, Energis offer U.K. market free Internet plan

Dixons Group PLC, a consumer electronics retailer, and Energis PLC, a telecommunications firm, rolled out Freeserve, a free Internet service in Britain, UK, market. Customers are offered free Web space to devise homepages and daily content in the form of weather, sports and news reports. They can also have unlimited access free electronic-mail addresses. A charge of 1 pound sterling a minute will be charged to users who call the 24-hour technical support line. Dixons hopes to sell its consumer-electronics products via the Internet in the future. Energis is stand to gain from increased telecommunications and Internet use of its network.

Great Universal is seeking buyers for finance units

Great Universal Stores PLC, a retailing company from the United Kingdom, is looking to divest the primary Highway Vehicle Management and General Guarantee Finance units of its finance division. Great Universal Stores was reportedly seeking for the two units a purchase price of $2 billion, or approximately 1.2 billion pounds sterling. Great Universal Stores cited that it is in the process of studying the different bids launched by various parties seeking to acquire its two finance-division units.

BOC Group's shares jump on merger speculation

BOC Group PLC's share value increased by 2.5% due to rumours stating that the company is still considering the possibility of a merger. BOC has already rejected two takeover offers. The company rejected a joint acquisition bid because it claimed it would not serve its stockholders', customers', and workers' interests.
