Scotiabank reviews $12M ad account
Article Abstract:
The Bank of Nova Scotia in Canada is conducting a search for a new advertising agency to serve it. The bank's vice-president for advertising Rick White noted that the previous advertising agency Cossette Communication-Marketing was given a probationary period to improve management of the C$12.1 million business. White stressed that the shift to a new agency is necessary since the bank needs to take advantage of competitive opportunities. The probationary period, which ended on March 31, 1997, leaves Cossette available for the new bidding. However, it declined to pursue that account again.

The national advertising boom
Article Abstract:
Community papers are seeing huge increases in their national ad sales. For instance, members of the Ontario Community Newspapers Association enjoyed an increase of 59% in national advertising sales during 1997 over 1996. Several factors are behind the situation, with the recent rapid economic growth in most of Canada playing a big role. There is also the decision of the community papers to try electronic ad distribution in most provinces and an enhanced ability to go after specific local markets using geographic Information Systems.
