DoE threatens councils' building
Article Abstract:
The Department of the Environment has warned local councils to delay building projects for services like sport, libraries and economic development and has threatened to cut the funding of such projects by up to 75% in 1993. The Association of Metropolitan Authorities has criticised the announcement saying any cut would be damaging to the construction industry and local services. Further reductions in funding are also feared but direct government grants are not affected.
