Docklands to return to roots: watchdog calls for people power
Article Abstract:
Development control powers for the London Docklands areas should be returned to local planning authorities. The future of Canary Wharf in Docklands is in doubt as its developer, Olympia & York Developments, has filed for protection under Canadian and US insolvency procedures. The Docklands Consultative Committee wants the London Docklands Development Corporation dissolved and replaced by social housing and small-scale industry under the control of Tower Hamlets, Newham and Southwark authorities.
