Article Abstract:
Former telecoms regulator, Don Cruickshank, has issued a report on British banking that argues that the banks' excess profits amount to between 5 billion dollars and 8 billion dollars annually. British banks are profitable in relation to the global average, and banks play a major role in credit provision and money transmission. Overcharging retail customers could become less of a problem with new entrants in the market. The report expresses concern about banking for small businesses, and argues that some banks should sell some of their small business operations.
