Agricultural policy can be very difficult to reform, as many governments the world over have tried and failed. New Zealand, which has substantially reduced subsidies, provides a model which suggests that radical reform may be easier to implement that gradual reform.

Farm subsidies and price supports have existed for centuries, but now they are incredibly wasteful and completely outmoded for world markets. These agricultural policies have a negative effect on employment, the budget deficit, and other economic matters.
