Downsize and out: management consultants see China business shrink
Article Abstract:
Management consultants have seen their China business fall with foreign investment slowing. There was a boom in China following Deng Xiaoping's 1992 tour of the South, and management consultants were seeking deals. Both Boston Consulting Group and Booz Allen & Hamilton set up offices in Shanghai in 1993-94, but foreign investment has fallen since then and many companies do not now make much use of external consultants. The consulting market in China is worth around $30 million a year, compared to a global market estimated at $25 billion.

Gone flat: Foreign beer brewers in China, once giddy at the prospect of a huge and thirsty market, have been sobered by mounting losses
Article Abstract:
Foreign brewers signed 50 joint venture deals in China since the early 1990s, but just a few are making money, whilst others are losing millions. Investments are now being scaled back or postponed, prices lowered and alliances considered. The market had been dominated by small local breweries, many of which closed under competitive pressures when the foreign brewers moved in. However local brews remained resilient and drinkers were not loyal when choosing from the new brews.
