A tourist mecca in Malacca? Hoteliers band together to drum up business
Article Abstract:
Hoteliers in Malacca, Malaysia are working together to make the city a business and tourist hotspot. Their plans include a 20-page brochure detailing the area's attractions for distribution to tour operators and travel agents worldwide and other marketing programs. Recognizing that a lack of a tourist-friendly infrastructure hinders the growth of the area as a holiday destination, the government is planning theme parks, museums, a marina development and sports facilities. It is also refurbishing historical sites such as the A Famosa fort and old Malacca town.

Taiwan tourism feels fallout from war games
Article Abstract:
Taiwan's tourist industry has begun to feel the effects of its dispute with China. Travel agents say that business has fallen by 50% since China began conducting military exercises in the strait of Taiwan. The loss in business is expected to have profound effects on the economy. Tourism has been Taiwan's strongest generating sector. Alongside the fallout in tourism is also the decline of Taiwan's transportation sector particularly the airline industry.
