DuPont's move to shed Conoco might benefit from BP's deal
Article Abstract:
DuPont wants to sell Conoco and British Petroleum's offer to buy Amoco for $48 billion might be what DuPont needs to attract buyers for Conoco. The company plans to take Conoco public, selling 20% stake in October 1998. After the offering, the company may sell or spin off the rest of the shares in Conoco. With the company's earnings declining, the company hopes to get out of the energy business. Analysts estimate Conoco to be worth $20 billion to $25 billion and according to them if DuPont gets a good offer for the unit, its stock could jump 10% to 15%.
