Engelhard Environmental Systems (India) Ltd, a 70:30 joint venture between Engelhard Corporation of the US and Ucal Fuel Systems Ltd, commissioned its auto-emission unit at Chennai on August 17, 1998. The unit will produce emission reducing catalysts for light passenger cars. It will also produce advanced catalysts to reduce air emissions from stationery sources like manufacturing facilities and power plants. The domestic demand is expected to reach 400,000 auto catalysts and one million motorcycle catalysts by 2000 AD. (khr)

ION EXCHANGE PUTS UP PHARMA RESINS UNIT

Ion Exchange (India) Ltd of Mumbai has set up a unit at Ambernath in Maharashtra to produce pharmaceutical grade resins. The company claims that its facility is the first unit in India to get the approval of the Food and Drug Administration. The water treatment company also produces speciality resins for the pharma industry. Dragoco India Ltd, a joint venture between Dragoco Gerberding & Co AG of Germany and the Sanmar group of Chennai, is putting up a new Rs1.75 crore facility to increase the capacity of its flavours and fragrances. The new unit, which is to come up at Semmancheri near Chennai, is expected to commence operations by early 2000 AD. The new facility is being set up as the existing unit at Perungudi is inadequate to handle future requirements. (khr)
