Telstra International of Australia has decided to take a more decisive role in the management of Modi Telstra, a cellular services joint venture with the BK Modi group. This decision has been taken in view of the increasing losses of Modi Telstra and is in line with the restructuring of the operations of Telstra's International Business Group. The managing director of Telestra International Group has been inducted in the board of Modi Telstra. Modi Telstra is one of two cellular services provider for the Calcutta telecom circle. (khr)

NON-METRO CELL LICENCES TO BE VALID FOR 15 YEARS
Article Abstract:
The Government of India has extended the validity of licences of non-metro cellular operators from 10 years to 15 years. This was one of the three demands raised by cellular operators. The terms and conditions for the extension will be decided by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. The government has rejected the cellular operators' demand for a two-year moratorium on the payment of licence fee and waiver of annual fee of Rs6,000 per mobile phone user in metros. (gs)
