EU may block merger of Sprint, WorldCom

The European Commission has circulated among European Union governments a draft decisions in regard to the merger of Sprint and WorldCom. It appears that the Commission will recommend that the merger be blocked, just as the U.S. Justice Department has done.

WorldCom to appeal Sprint decision
Article Abstract:
WorldCom Inc. intends to appeal the EU decision to prohibit its acquisition of Sprint Corp. Although the appeal would not revive the failed $115 billion (Euro133.28 billion) agreement, it might make it easier for WorldCom to complete other future deals.

Sprint set to back out of WorldCom accord

Sprint Corp. is expected to withdraw from its merger deal with WorldCom Inc. The move will enable Deutsche Telekom AG to make an offer of over $110 billion (115.2 billion euros) to buy Sprint.
