CORIANDER WONDER
Article Abstract:
The exports of coriander from India is likely to achieve new height at around 25,000 tonnes during 1998-99 season. The exports of coriander in 1997-98 have crossed the volumes of 20,100 tonnes valued at Rs54.41 crore (12,574 tonnes valued at Rs31.36 crore in 1996-97). During 1998-99, there has been a bumper coriander crop. The production during 1998-99 is about 90 lakh bags (40 kg each) as compared to around 55 lakh bags (of 40 kg each) during 1997-98. Because of the surplus production the stockists are expected to carry about 15 lakh bags, while farmers 20 lakh bags. (gs)

The increase in international prices of soyameal is likely to benefit Indian soyameal exporters. International prices have increased from $122 per tonne freight on board (FOB) to $150 per tonne FOB. Domestic soyameal prices have declined to Rs364 per 10 kg (Rs402 per 10 kg on October 17, 1998). India's soyameal production is estimated at 6.2 million tonnes in 1998 against 5.5 million tonnes in 1997. (nr)
