S&Y MILLS LOOKS AT CAPACITY EXPANSION

S&Y Mills Ltd of Chennai, a garment manufacturing company, plans to expand its production capacity at a cost of Rs4.5 crore. A part of the project envisages 40 percent expansion of its suiting unit at Maraimalainagar, near Chennai, at an estimated cost of Rs2.5 crore. The project will be completed during April-May 1999. The company intends to raise the production capacity of its ready-made shirts unit at Ikkattuthangal 5-fold. The cost of this project is estimated to be Rs2 crore. (gs)

ARVIND MILLS SURE OF CONTRACT RENEWAL FOR ARROW BRAND

Arvind Mills Limited (AML) expects Cluett Peabody of the US to renew its contract. Cluett Peabody has entered into a contract with Arvind Mills to manufacture and market its Arrow brand of ready-made garments in India. Under the contract, AML manufactures and markets Arrow products in India. AML has recently launched wrinkle free Newport trousers. It has targeted a turnover of Rs14 crore over the next six months.
