Early investors in Vietnam flee
Article Abstract:
A number of foreign investors in Vietnam are already withdrawing their capital and projects. Vietnam's economy has seen an upsurge when the US revoked its trade restriction on the country in February 1994. The Vietnamese government promised economic reforms to encourage foreign investment into the country. After 3 years, investors are still faced with bureaucratic red tape and unreasonable business tax regulations. Moreover, the economy has also been affected by the nearby Asian crisis. Total foreign investment fell 20% from January to June 1998.

Seoul tightens investment belt in Vietnam
Article Abstract:
South Korean companies are being compelled to limit their investments in Vietnam in the face of the Asian economic crisis. The effect could wreck Vietnam's already belegueared economy since it relies extensively on international investments. The International Monetary Fund's $57 bil bailout to South Korea in December 1997 will push radical corporate cutbacks and restructurings, further relegating Vietnam projects into the least priority.
