Early storm warning
Article Abstract:
Kavouras has come up with the TDR-series Triton Doppler weather radar, which is made up of five models offering a selection of bands and power options. The TDR performs complex modulation schemes based on the full coherency and true amplification of Klystron or TWT-based transmitters. The schemes include true range expansion and zooming in on remote storm activity in high resolution. An extensive range of pulse-widths and pulse repetition frequencies can be chosen to optimize range resolution, sensitivity and penetration. The TDR's receiver projects both short-range/strong signal returns and long-range/weak signal returns.

Gone with the wind
Article Abstract:
R. M. Young of the US has launched a new wind-measurement system, called the 06201 Wind Tracker, which offers a 36-point visual display of windspeed and wind direction. Windspeed is shown in knots, km/h, mph and m/s. The maximum windspeed is registered in another display until reset by the operator. Wind direction data is displayed on a circular compass pattern of LEDs. Multi-colored segments, meanwhile, present a visual cue of the present direction, and changes in the wind direction. Brightness control on the front panel enables adjustment for ambient conditions.
