The East Timor problem, which has resulted in the decline of the Indonesian stock market, may actually be a blessing in disguise for the country's capital markets. Analysts are arguing that President Habibie's move to allow the use of military force in East Timor following its vote in favor of independence may actually pave the way for the election of Ms. Megawati Sukarnoputri. The violent result of Habibie's actions may actually result in a smooth transition of power.
