Determination of minimum number of sensors and their locations for an automated facility: an algorithmic approach
Article Abstract:
The appropriate number of sensors in an automated system and their locations in the work environment were analyzed by an algorithmic method. The problem was determined to be a variation of the minimum guard cover problem and a polynomial algorithm was used to generate strong visibility polygons of all the edges of the cover. A minimum set of points was then chosen requiring the solution of a set covering problem that is NP-complete.

The return plant location problem: modelling and resolution
Article Abstract:
A new plant location problem, known as the Return Plant Location Problem (RPLP), is analyzed by employing Lagrangian decomposition based heuristic and exact solution methods. The RPLP refers to cost minimization in a system of suppliers and customers in which a return product from each customer is present. The methods are used to test problems with various structures and correlated with the classical subgradient optimization method.
