Plastic house originator gets a show at last...
Article Abstract:
The Ecole superieure des beaux-arts de Tours in Tours, France, is holding an exhibition of the work of architect Ionel Schein. This is based around the plastic house invented by Schein for a housing exhibition in 1956. The design is made up of slot-in segments, and reflects Schein's belief in democratic, flexible architecture accessible to all. The house is of 15 different plastics, coloured yellow, red or blue. Schein's design was to prompt many further plastic houses.

Fringe benefits for mother of the arts
Article Abstract:
The Edinburgh Festival is continually promoted as the world's largest arts festival, but there are few architectural exhibitions. The architectural focus is located at the Matthew Gallery and the RIAS Gallery. However there are smaller attractions such as Uli Schuppel's Der Platz, documenting the re-emergence of Berlin's Postdamer Platz. Other fringe exhibitions include photographs by Thomas Struth exploring Edinburgh's inhabitants and its unconscious places.
