Eli Lilly faces patent challenge from a long-ago collaboration
Article Abstract:
Eli Lilly and Co. of the United States is embroiled in a patent infringement case with a Stanford medical researcher, Gerald Crabtree over the licensing of the Xigris drug. Mr. Crabree researched gene Protein C, the ground work for the development of Xigris, for six years in the 1980's and was not credited as a co-discoverer so he did not receive royalties. Pharmaceutical companies often use overlapping research when developing a drug which may lead to muddy waters for patent licensing.
