The travel and tourism market in Italy has reported strength in religious tourism that features visitations to places with religious relevance. A considerable growth is expected in this sector by 2000 considering the country's celebrations for the Holy Year. Religious destinations are both popular for foreign and local tourists. Because of the strong demand, tour operators are offering special and traditional tour packages. Several regional tourist boards including the Venetian tourist board are also preparing for the Giubileo by devising a series of publications and events.

The travel and tourism market in Italy has reported a new product sector in wine tourism or eno that features visitations to wine producing facilities called cantine and staying in the centers themselves. Visitors are allowed to participate in the actual production of wine and also to purchase products from the facilities. This type of tourism, which is already present in France and Germany for ten years now, report that an average 19% of their sales are sold to visitors of this sector. Most visitors opting eno are from France and Germany.

The travel and tourism market in Italy reports a new product sector in farm holidays, also known as agritourism, which are usually managed by locals on a farm. This type of accommodation, which is said to have developed in the northern regions of Trentino Alto Adige and Veneto, both in Italy, has the attracting quality of offering visitors a chance to experience farming life and living in a rural area. In 1997, these type of accommodations have started offering catering services making it a major alternative to restaurants.
