Bochemie (Bohumin, Czech Republic), specialty chemical producer, will enter the US market in 1999. The firm will supply the know-how and steel hydroxide pickling technology to Talley Metals (TM) (US), which is a part of Carpenter Technology Corporation (US). The contract worth 18 mil Kc was arranged by Bochemie's subsidiary Ekomor (Frydek-Mistek, Czech Republic) at the end of 1998. The progressive method is licensed as a Czech patent. Bochemie expects a gross profit of 35 mil Kc under proceeds of over 558 mil Kc in 1999. The firm saw a gross profit of 44 mil Kc under proceeds of 549.7 mil Kc in 1998. Bochemie produces nearly 90 kinds of chemical specialities. The firm's best known products are the disinfection agents Savo and Chloramin B. The company has 450 employees and a stock of 20.4 mil Kc. Bochemie is a part of the Group Bochemie Group (BG) (Czech Republic), which associates 14 subsidiaries. BG saw a net profit of 90 mil Kc under proceeds of 1.3 bil Kc in 1997.

Thin capitalization rules: an Anglo-American comparison
Article Abstract:
Tne United Kingdom is the only one of the Anglo-American countries that relies on an arms-length approach to prevent thin capitalization, and other Anglo-American countries, for example, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States favor the fixed-ratio approach. The fixed-ratio approach runs counter to the recommendations of certain international agencies and may place unnecessary restrictions on international business enterprises where apparent that debt finance is not a substitute for equity but used for real commercial reasons.

Life and culture of America and the Iberian Peninsula through the Iberian American Barometer

The Latin American Barometer, a bi-annual country opinion programme, gives a valuable insight into the opinions and cultural values which are of key importance in understanding the Americas. Issues highlighted include international cooperation, with many of the Iberian American population believing that people should be allowed to work in any country, for example. A particular area of research was the perceived benefit of Latin American integration with the US.
