Nokia Corp., a manufacturer of telecommunications equipment from Finland, has managed to surpass the performance of its rival firms through its strategy of appealing to style-conscious consumers with its attractive cellular-telephone designs. Nokia has transformed its cellular-phone handsets into accessories, like jewelry and watches, that suit a user's individuality. Nokia's chairman and president, Jorma Ollila, cited that the firm has adopted product design as a component of its marketing efforts to appeal to cell-phone users.
