Ericsson is top maker of digital phones in U.S
Article Abstract:
Telefon AB L.M. Ericsson of Sweden is the leading manufacturer of digital handsets in 1997, based on reports by marker researcher Dataquest. Ericsson held 41% of the market as the leading vendor of digital cellular phones in 1997. However, according to Matt Hoffman, a senior analyst at Dataquest, Ericsson's lead is at risk because it does not manufacture a phone for one of the three competing types of digital-cellular service available in the US, such as CDMA or code-division multiple access. Only Nokia, which held 20% of the market in 1997, uses all three types of service, including CDMA, one of the fastest-growing digital services in 1997.
