Australia's central bank acts to help debt market

The Reserve Bank of Australia announced it will widen the types of securities it will accept in repurchase agreements in an effort to loosen the nation's money market in the midst of credit market problems. The bank also input a net of US$584 mil into the money market.

Housing prices decline in Europe as loan costs rise

Housing prices have fallen in France, Ireland, Spain, and the UK as loan costs have risen in recent months: a 1% decline in France, a 1.9% decline in Ireland, a 0.3% decline in Spain, and a 0.6% decline in the UK. The declines follow the ongoing credit market problems.
