EuroMTS trade government bonds

EuroMTS Ltd. of the UK is 100%-owned by electronics securities exchange Mercato Telematico dei Titoli di Sato (MTS) that will start trading government bonds on January 1, 1999. The company was incorporated with an objective of trading a wide variety of government bond benchmarks in Europe. EuroMTS intends to use MTS technology in trading, with an initial goal of providing a single trading platform for cash bonds from nations partaking in Europe's economic and monetary union. Meanwhile, two classes of shares will be sold by the firm beginning between Sep. 1, 1998, and Oct. 30, 1998.

Guardian Royal plans to expand health operations

Guardian Royal Exchange PLC intends to expand its strategic health-care operations even as doubtful observers said the market for such products may be diminishing. The company said it will sink in 300 million pounds sterling ($500 million) to PPP Lifetime Care, a health insurer it has just purchased, after an announcement by the U.K. insurer that margins for general insurance are facing pressure. Alan Oldie, managing director of Guardian Financial Services, Guardian Royal's life insurance unit, said the company expects the market for long-term health care to increase.

Scottish Power reviewing potential deals in U.S

Scottish Power PLC of Glasgow will study several potential takeover targets in the US electricity industry. However, the company refused to disclose whether it plans to offer 4 billion pounds sterling to acquire Cinergy Corp. of Columbus, OH. There are also speculations that the company may open merger negotiations with Houston Industries.
