Prepared soups are mainly retailed via hypermarkets and supermarkets, which are also dubbed multiples, which made up as high as 92% of all 1997 retail sales of the category in France. In the same year, supermarkets and hypermarkets are responsible for over 50% of prepared soups sales in every key market in Germany. The habit of consumers to buy products at a single large retail store prompted share increases over the review period. The increases are also partly attributed to the placement of more chilled cabinets within multiples to accommodate chilled soup products.

The small electrical appliances market in Europe is highly penetrated and is basically mature, with demand for replacement the main prompter of volume growth. Small electrical appliances, innovations on which are focused on design and function, experienced a decline in average unit prices during the review period because of heavy competition and the inflow of inexpensive products from abroad. Personal appliances, such as men's hair care appliances which are targeted at specific markets, enjoy robust increases in sectors such as body massagers and oral care products.
