Moulinex and SEB, the two top manufacturers of small electrical appliances in France, accounted for the largest share of European markets such as Spain and France with a combined 49% in total volume sales in 1997. France, Spain and Italy are the strongest markets of Moulinex, and Braun likewise enjoys a major presence in the international small electrical appliances market due to its production of high-quality, high-tech products. Other manufacturers that gained large shares of the markets in Italy, France, UK, Germany and Spain are Philips, Electrolux, Dyson and Ufesa.

Comercial Ufesa, which was the erstwhile Krainel, manufactures a complete line of small kitchen appliances and is a leading manufacturer of microwave ovens in Spain. Comercial Ufesa, which manufactures around three million units per year, sells 75% of grills, deep-fat fryers, toasters and coffee makers and other kitchen appliances in Spain. Comercial Ufesa, which unveils around 20 new products annually, operates several subsidiaries in France, Germany, Portugal and England and is evaluating its penetration of new markets in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.

Braun AG, a subsidiary of Gillette Inc., accounted for 2% of the overall volume sales of small electrical appliances in 1997 in France and rivals Moulinex for market share in Italy and Spain. Braun, which posted total volume sales of 16% in Spain and 17.1% in Italy, generates 73% of its sales from new products in the last five years. In the UK, Braun ranks the fourth-largest firm in the small electrical appliances market with a value share of 7.5% in 1997. Meanwhile, Braun experienced turnover that is some 9.5% higher to DM2,865 million in 1997.
