France argues that it should protect cultural diversity by subsidizing audiovisual industries, and the French tend to see globalization as involving US dominance. France argues that the World Trade Organization should include rules that permit the European Union to reject beef treated with hormones and genetically modified food. Free trade is still in France's interests as a major exporter, and new talks on free trade couldbe less stressful than the Uruguay Round.
