Digging up the past
Article Abstract:
There have been attempts to find the bodies of people killed by the Irish Republican Army (IRA) following a partial confession by the IRA about the murders, which occurred 27 years prior to 1999. The bodies were initially though to have been buried in Belfast, Northern Ireland, but the search has since moved to Ireland, following information being received by priests. The IRA has admitted to nine killings, though 13 people have disappeared. This affair could affect voting in the elections for the European parliament.

Parking the process
Article Abstract:
The peace process in Northern Ireland has encountered an obstacle in the dispute over the disarmament of the Irish Republican Army (IRA). The participants in the peace process do not wish to declare it moribund, but there is likely to be a postponement in summer 1999 while those involved think about the issues at stake. An end to the peace process appears unlikely and part of the peace process is to be implemented such as the equality agenda, allowing a basis for more equal treatment for Catholics.
